Blessing in Disguise is a local Children’s charity based in Leigh established in 2013. They offer a variety of life-enhancing experiences that significantly improve the quality of life for families and their caregivers of disabled, disadvantaged, and terminally ill children and young people.
They are a socially responsible organization dedicated to supporting the entire family through their free service. They offer a variety of essential equipment, including special needs wheelchairs, prams, walkers, sensory equipment, and communication aids etc.
Recently, they received a request for a seizure camera for 11-year-old Bailey. He has been diagnosed with global developmental delay, uncontrolled epilepsy, non-verbal sensory hearing loss, and partial vision impairment. Bailey is also a wheelchair user. His family has made modifications to their home, creating a bedroom for him on the ground floor, as they can no longer carry him upstairs.
Bailey’s parents were concerned about potentially missing a seizure during the night and are seeking a SAMi 3 seizure camera. This device serves as a sleep activity monitor for caregivers and parents who need to observe abnormal movements at night in children and adults. When unusual movement is detected, the SAMi system alerts the caregiver.
Blessing in Disguise approached the BBCT for help putting the funding together for this piece of equipment. The BBCT helped with the hope that this helps to secure a good future for Bailey.
Bailey’s mum sent these words:
The camera has truly made our lives much easier, thank you! Bailey suffers from uncontrollable epilepsy and experiences several seizures each week. We were fortunate that the council approved a specially built room for Bailey to sleep in, but we needed an epilepsy camera since he couldn’t use the standard epilepsy mats due to his Pica condition. Having the camera has made a significant difference, as we feel less stressed knowing we can now respond more quickly to Bailey’s seizures.
