9th and 15th Leigh Scouts

From Dan, the Scout Section Team Leader:

9th & 15th Leigh Scout Group was established in 2004 engaging more young people from leigh with the skills that Scouting offers. Within our group we hold four different sections (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs & Scouts) all aging from 4yrs to 14yr old. Throughout our weekly meetings & various other events such as trips out or camping experiences we learn vital ‘skills for life’.

Some of the skills we learn within scouts include axe, knife and saw safety. first aid training, fire lighting, map reading, getting muddy to friendship & teamwork. This is all achieved through our extensive programme we run each year. Over the last 2 years, the scout troop have made it their mission to visit new places each summer during their time with us as part of their annual summer camps.

Last year saw us travel to Windermere in the Lake District for 7 days to experience the great outdoors. This year sees us travel to Cheshire Showground in August to the ‘Chamboree 2026’ which is an international scout jamboree welcoming over 8,000 international scouts to the small town of Tabley. Spending 7 days camping on the showground enjoying various themed activities during the day including things such as climbing, quad biking, inflatables, dunk tanks & caving to the evening entertainment running UV disco’s, silent disco’s, Karaoke & the big top circus all while making friends with fellow scouts from 40+ other countries.

Running a large-scale summer camp like this brings a big cost to the group and parents. This comes from the site fees, food shopping, activity equipment, van hire, fuel, gas bottles & new equipment. To bring this cost down we reached out to the local community for local grants or fundraising options to go towards our new equipment costs for this year’s camp.

We would like to thank the ‘Bent and Bongs Charitable Trust’ for their kind donation to help cover the cost of our tents & gazebo’s we need for this year’s camp.

Without these kind donations, we simply wouldn’t be able to run these fantastic residential experiences to 20 fantastic scouts & the camp leadership team of 5.
