What/Who Is The Bent and Bongs Charitable Trust?

The Bent and Bongs Charitable Trust is a charity based in Atherton, Manchester. It exists primarily as the governing organisation for the Bent and Bongs Beer Bash; and event held annually to raise money for local charities and good causes.

A Bit of History

The Bent and Bongs Beer Bash first came to life in 1990. Back then the event was a trial by the local Atherton and Tyldesley branch of The Round Table to see if it was possible to raise money for charity by throwing a beer festival. And boy was that a risk!

For that first even beer festival and years into the future The Round Table was the owning legal entity. They were the organisation responsible for filing accounts, operating a bank account, making sure the event was safe and legal, and ultimately deciding where the funds raised would go to. All that kind of stuff. It all ticked along very nicely with the annual event at The Formby Hall.

Until 2009.

In 2009 the members of the Atherton and Tyldesley branch of The Round table took the tough decision to close this branch of the organisation. This left the beer bash without a legal home. And no legal home would mean no future beer bashes.

A group of the round tablers did a lot of head scratching, plenty of thinking, and a bunch of research to find the best way to fix this. Their answer was to create a Charitable Trust.

Thus in 2009 the legal entity that is the Bent and Bongs Charitable Trust was formed. The BBCT for short. This BBCT is the entity currently responsible for governing the annual Bent and Bongs Beer Bash. The BBCT is an official charity registered with the Charities Commission of England and Wales, number 1133407.

And that’s what is the Bent and Bongs Charitable Trust.
